Summary:

We need speed and bandwidth!!! How are you meeting the needs of the digital learning environment? Wireless is the answer to all connectivity. NOT!!

Body:

I was just asked if we are  planning for the digital learning wave that is coming our way.  My answer is that it is here and has been here for a while. But it is growing. Our district has been planning for this for a number of years to address the increasing digital learning demand.

We are now dealing with the supply and demand of providing new resources required for instruction.  Years ago you were laughted at if you built your infrastrucre to move gigabit data. Now your'e laughed at if you don't have a gigabit network with the plans to move to 100 gigabit or faster.  I remember the time that it was thought that a DSL line was big enough to carry your district.  Now we are purchasing bandwith with a minimum of 100 mb up to a gigabit connection, and planning to connect to 10 gigabit or even larger.

Our switches have moved from switching 10 megabit to switching at a minimum of 100 megabit to even providing power over the wire.

If your infrastructure is not stable and you can't provide the demand that your campus/district is putting on it, what will you do? How are you funding it? Our district uses bond funds to provide the equipment to grow and upgrade our infrasturcture.  Yet we think about what  the next levels of bandwith are that we should be planning for.

We are here and the digital wave is here.  How do we prepare?
